My MTB Ride with Hazard County Shuttle Service

Why Use A Bike Shuttle Service

On my most recent trip to Moab, UT this spring I had one goal in mind; mountain biking the Whole Enchilada or at least the lower two sections. An entire day of techy, desert riding didn't sound too fun yet for my skill level.

First, I needed to find a shuttle company to get me up there. Most shuttle companies in Moab offer one option; a ride to the top, or at least as high as they can get you. Since this is not what I wanted to spend my day doing, I dug a little harder until I found the Hazard County Shuttle Company.

Finding Mountain Bike Trails For My Skill Level

Riding Mountain biking with Hazard County Shuttles allows you to see more of an area faster than you do on foot and is a great way to put a smile on your face while getting in a workout. Hazard County Shuttles asks all of their Riders to understand that their shuttle services are designed as a group or individual experiences, either way their drivers are really knowledgeable and have great stories to tell if you ask.

Hazard County Shuttles asks every Rider to review their Skill and Fitness Rating to ensure you're confident in the skill and fitness levels required for the particular Ride you're interested in riding.

The Hazard Shuttle Company was able to drop me off at the Lower Porcupine Singletrack (LPS) which connects into Porcupine Rim Classic, the last section of the the Porcupine Rim Classic Trail. Together these two trails make up the bottom third of the Whole Enchilada.

When I got on the LPS, I was given two options; ride the short but technically challenging “Notch” which is recommended to advanced riders only or take the less challenging “snotch” bypass. Keep in mind that the bypass is only less challenging than the Notch and has its own series of technical and challenging moves. The rest of the trail is a mix of slickrock, singletrack, with sections of flow trail. Traverse the rim along the trail before coming down onto the Porcupine Rim Classic overlook.

Best LPS Photo Break Locations

If you haven't stopped yet, this is a great place to hang out for a second and enjoy the view. I took my time snacking on a Clif Bar and rehydrating. Usually I ride with my CamelBak so that I can sip water as I ride but the technical single track kept my hands fixed on the bars the entire time.

When taking a selfie, be aware of your surroundings, you don't want to fall off that cliff! You can always ask someone to take the picture for you.

Next up is the Porcupine Rim Classic section of the trail. Make sure to stop to take in the view of Castle Valley below, as this trail is fast, techy, exposed and fun! The trail starts out down a steep, fast jeep road with drops, ledges and rocks to watch out for. It's not all downhill from here, there are still a few short climbs before you get to the final downhill singletrack. The final single track offers incredible views over the Colorado River as you ride down.

Think about adding onto your adventure with a quick pick up and drop off at the river with your bike and gear. Hazard County Shuttles can make that happen with their river tickets. Be sure to ask the driver about it!

I Couldn't Have Done It Without Hazard County Shuttle!

One great thing about the Hazard County Shuttle is that they picked me up at the Porcupine Rim Classic Trailhead River Parking Lot, so I was able to be at my car right away. Once I was done riding, I had enough time to get my rental bike back to the Rim Cyclery bike shop and catch a gorgeous Moab area sunset from my campsite.

Riding Bikes with a Shuttle Service in Moab Utah is the best way to do it. It helped me ride more days while I was out there, and the quality of my riding was much better versus riding without a shuttle service.

After this awesome experience riding mountain bikes with Hazard County Shuttle, I'll always ride with a shuttle service, and next time I'm on vacation in Moab, Hazard County Shuttle is the best shuttle service in Moab!
